Sharing and the Web Viewer
A full-quality recording of a three-hour show is far too big to email. Export Recording makes a smaller copy and leaves the original alone, and the web viewer at showrevue.com/viewer plays that copy in a browser with its cues, notes and timecode. The person at the other end doesn't need ShowRevue or a Mac.
Export Recording
Open the take in Playback, then choose File → Export Recording… (⌘E). The Export for Online sheet opens.
How much of it
The Export picker chooses the slice:
| Option | What you get |
|---|---|
| Entire show | The whole take |
| Act | One act, from the recording's own act and interval timing |
| LX cue range | From one LX cue to another, for example the act two finale for the choreographer |
| Time in recording | A stretch of the file by elapsed time (mm:ss or h:mm:ss) |
| Time of day | A stretch by wall-clock time, such as 19:30 to 21:45 |
Only the options the take can support are useful: no intervals, no acts. Under the picker, ShowRevue shows the in, out and length of what you've chosen. If the range doesn't match anything in the recording, it says so.
How big
You choose the size, not a quality setting.
- Video: Original, or 1, 2, 4 or 8 Mbps. ShowRevue tells you up front roughly how big the file will come out, next to the size of the source. Original copies the picture without re-encoding, so it is almost instant and the size simply scales with the slice.
- Resolution: 1080p, 720p or Source. Drop to 720p if it has to be smaller again. (Not used with Original.)
Audio
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Program + timecode (default) | Programme on the left, the recorded LTC on the right. For anything that chases timecode. A take with no LTC track gets programme on both sides. |
| Program (dual mono) | Programme on both left and right. Best for sending to someone to watch. |
| Program only | One track, as recorded |
| All tracks | Every track, kept separate |
| Choose tracks… | Pick the tracks yourself |
If you're sending the file to someone to watch, pick Program (dual mono) so they don't hear timecode in one ear.
Keep the cues
Leave Include cues and notes ticked. The copy is still a ShowRevue recording, with every cue and note inside it, so it opens in Playback on another Mac with everything there, and in the web viewer and the browser trainer.
Click Export…, pick where it goes, and the sheet shows progress. Export complete offers
Show in Finder. The file is an .mp4. Cancel stops the export and removes the part-written
file.
The web viewer
Send people to showrevue.com/viewer. The ShowRevue app has no link to it, so give them the address.
- Open the page in a browser and drop the recording onto it, or click to choose the file.
- It plays with the cue list, the notes and a big timecode readout above the sidebar.
The file stays on their computer. The page reads it in the browser and never uploads it.
On an iPad or iPhone, tap to choose a recording and pick it from Files (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive). Make the file available offline first.
Which files work
The viewer wants the .mp4 that H.264 recording, or Export Recording, makes. Those carry their
cues inside the file. A ProRes .mov keeps its cues in a separate _cues.json, and most browsers
can't play ProRes at all, so export a copy first or open it in the ShowRevue app.
Files that carry an audio channel map play only the programme, comms and aux channels, to both speakers. The LTC channel is left out, so nobody hears timecode.
Keys
The viewer uses the same keys as Playback in the app. Press ? for the full list.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Space or K | Play or pause |
| ← / → | Back or forward 5 seconds (Shift for 1 second) |
| J / L | Back or forward 10 seconds |
| , / . | Step one frame |
| < / > | Previous or next LX cue |
| ; / ' | Previous or next media cue |
| [ / ] | Previous or next note |
| W | Next outstanding note |
| I / O | Loop in and out; \ clears the loop |
| F | Full screen |
| M | Mute |
Cloud shows
For a recording from a cloud show, a signed-in team member sees the show's live cloud notes and can add a note at the playhead with N or + Note. Notes can be filtered, commented on and marked done. See Rehearsal Notes.
