Live Notes

Live Notes web page on a phone or tablet

The Live Notes web page: current cue card, note composer, and the live notes feed.

Live Notes lets crew submit timestamped notes from phones, tablets, or laptops during a session. Notes are tagged by department, appear in the Notes panel in real time, and are saved with the recording.

Local Live Notes preferences in ShowRevue

Preferences → Live Notes: enable the local LAN server, port, and access protection.

There are two ways to run it:

  • LAN Live Notes — a web page served straight off the Mac, for devices on the same network. No account needed.
  • Cloud Live Notes — a hosted page at showrevue.com/livenotes/<code> that your team can reach from anywhere, with accounts and membership.

LAN Live Notes requires the Capture licence tier or above. Cloud Live Notes (hosted team notes) requires Production.

LAN Live Notes

  1. Open Preferences → Live Notes.
  2. Enable Live Notes.
  3. Use the Copy URL icon to copy the server address, for example http://192.168.1.10:8888.
  4. Use the QR code icon to let crew open it quickly on phones.
  5. Crew submissions appear in the Notes panel in real time and are saved with the session.

PIN protection

You can enable PIN protection to prevent unauthorised submissions from other devices on the network.

Cloud Live Notes

Cloud Live Notes shares a show's notes with your team over the internet — useful when people aren't on the venue network, or for keeping a running record across sessions.

Create the cloud project

Projects are local-first: a new show stays on your Mac until you opt in.

  1. Open Preferences → Live Notes (or tick Create cloud project in the New Project dialog).
  2. Click Create cloud project. This is account-gated — if you're not signed in, you'll be routed through login first.
  3. ShowRevue mints a show code and connects the project. Your .srshow keeps working offline either way.

The show code, owner, and a live cloud-status dot are shown in Project Settings → General.

The Show Team

Add your team in Preferences → Live Notes → Show Team (one email per line):

  • People with a ShowRevue account become active members immediately; others get an invite email nudging them to sign up.
  • The roster travels with the show and receives the session-report PDF.
  • Adding an email does not grant instant access on its own — members open the cloud page and join with the show code, then the owner approves (see below).

Joining a show

Team members open showrevue.com/livenotes/<code> and:

  1. Sign in with a free account.
  2. Request to join (the owner approves from the Show Manager or an in-app prompt). Invited members with an account are already active.

Once approved, they see the show's live notes, cues, and snapshots from any device — phone, tablet, or computer. No app required.

During and after a session

  • Notes, camera snapshots, and annotations round-trip between the Mac and the cloud, so a note drawn on a phone shows on the Mac and vice-versa.
  • Tapping Add Note on the web asks the Mac to grab the current camera frame so you can draw on it right away.
  • When the Mac stops recording, the page switches to a read-only view of that session's notes — nothing blanks out.

Theatre Mode

The cloud page has a pure-black, red-readout Theatre Mode to protect night vision in a darkened house.

Privacy: cloud read access is gated by login + show membership. Snapshots are served through an auth-checked route, not a public URL.

Best use

Live Notes is most useful when:

  • stage management needs multiple departments feeding notes into one session,
  • creative teams want live feedback collected without crowding the operator station,
  • the notes need to remain tied to the session record rather than living in a separate document.
