Project Statistics

Statistics is a section of Project Settings (⌘⌥,). It adds up the show's recordings: how many, how long, how many cues and notes, and how much disk they use. It's read-only. It never changes the project file, a recording or a cue file.

Project Settings. Statistics section

Statistics: six tiles for recordings, recorded time, cues, notes, timecode and disk use, then the take length, cue source, session and timecode detail groups.

Project Settings. Statistics, further down: storage and the table of recordings

Scrolled down: where the video folder lives, then every recording with its date, name, length and cues.

With no recordings in the project it shows "No recordings yet. Record a take and its numbers will show up here."

How the numbers are read

The list of recordings comes from the project. For each one that ShowRevue can find, it then reads the video file for its length and size, and the recording's _cues.json file for the cues, notes, session type and timecode.

  • Reading happens in the background, three recordings at a time, so a big library on a slow drive doesn't freeze the sheet.
  • While it works, a bar shows "Calculating… 4 of 12 recordings", and tiles that aren't ready say Calculating…. When it's done the line reads "Read from the recordings and their cue files. Nothing is changed."
  • Results are kept in memory for the session, keyed on the file's path, modified date and size, so opening the section again is quick. A file that has changed is read again.
  • A recording whose video can't be found (the drive is unplugged, or the file was moved) is counted as not found, and so is a file that turns out to be unreadable. Its length, cues and notes can't be read, so it adds nothing to those totals.

Tiles

TileWhat it showsWhere it comes from
RecordingsNumber of recordings in the project. The line under it reads "N not found" if any are missing, otherwise the date range (first to last recording date). The project's recordings list.
Recorded timeTotal length as h:mm:ss, with the average per take underneath. Each video file's duration. A take with no readable length is left out of the total and the average.
Cues recordedTotal cues, with the busiest take underneath, for example "busiest: Dress 2 (214)".Every cue in each recording's cue file.
NotesTotal notes, with "in N takes" underneath. The notes in each cue file. Until a cue file is read, a take counts as having notes if the project flags it.
TimecodeHow many takes have timecode. The project's timecode flag for the take, or timecode blocks found in its cue file.
Disk usedTotal size in the Mac's file-size format. Each video file plus its _cues.json.

Detail groups

Below the tiles:

  • Take length. The Longest take (with its name) and the Average.
  • Cues by source. Cues grouped as Lighting (grandMA3, grandMA2, Eos), QLab, Media servers (Millumin, Pixera, disguise and others), Audio consoles (including TheatreMix) and Other (automation, position tracking and cues of unknown source). A group with no cues isn't listed. If there are none at all it says "No cue files found".
  • Notes by department. Notes per department, largest first. It only appears when there are notes.
  • Sessions. Takes by session type, as stored in each cue file, largest first. A take with no session type counts as Unknown.
  • Timecode. Takes with timecode, and Named sections, which is the number of named timecode sections in the project.
  • Storage. Video folder is the folder chosen under Store video files elsewhere, or "Beside the project file". If the chosen folder can't be used it adds "(not found)". Not found shows "N of M" when recordings are missing.
  • Cloud. Only when the show is a cloud show. Members counts the people on the team, not counting pending requests. Until the team has loaded it says "Open the Members tab to load".

Recordings table

The last block is a table of every recording with Date, Name, Length, Cues and Notes. A recording that can't be found shows "not found" in the Length column. An ellipsis (…) means its file hasn't been read yet.
